The Cathedral of St. Baaf (Bavo) is a powerful monument of gothic architecture. It is also a museum of sculpture, carving, wrought iron work and painting.
The most famous of its paintings, "The Adorations of the Lamb of God" (1432), is housed in a chapel built specially for this purpose.
This masterpiece is commonly attributed to the two brothers, Jan and Hubert Van Eyck.
According to my Belgian friend BBB, it is said that not even Bill Gates can probably afford to buy this painting (unless he's willing to part with a few billions)
because each double-sided panel ALONE costs millions of US $. In fact, the bottom left panel is a replica of the original that was stolen and is currently
a topic of popular and controversal debate on where the missing piece could be - especially since one of the alleged perpetrators left a clue
that "the answer is hidden in the table" right before he passed away. Is it a workshop table? Could it contain a key leading to a certain
room or storeroom where he hid it? Or could THE TABLE TOP ITSELF be the missing panel? The debate furiously goes on...!
