Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary 2011

One of the most anticipated celebrations in the parish began on September 7 after the 6:30pm mass with the formal opening of the mini Marian Exhibit at the left corridor of the National Shrine. It featured images of the Blessed Virgin Mary mostly owned by families and individual parishoners from different parts of Valenzuela City.

On September 8 - the day of the Feast - the program started at 5:30pm with the recitation of the Holy Rosary led by different church organizations. In between the mysteries of the Rosary were presentations of Marian Songs performed by members of the Ministry of Liturgical Music.

After the praying of the Rosary the High Mass followed led by Msgr. Bartolome G. Santos Jr. with Parochial Vicar Rev. Fr. Oscar Duran. During the offertory, parishoners and Marian devotees offered cakes which were distributed to children in the Shrine basement after the program.

Mr. and Mrs. Virgilio and Susan Fabularum led the recitation of the Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary after the post-communion prayer.

The traditional candlelight procession inside the church took place after the Mass and the National Pilgrim Image of Our Lady of Fatima once again passed through the crowd of devotees raising their candle and prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As the procession commenced, Msgr. Santos led in the singing of the Salve Regina and the Happy Birthday song.

Aside from the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is an annual celebration that draws a huge crowd in the National Shrine. The cake offering and candlelight procession that started in 1998 continues to be held every year until now.
