The Zutons, Middlesbrough 2009

These photos were casually taken from the mosh pit at Middlesbrough Live Music 2009, a well-regarded music event in Northern England. It is free to attend, and on this occasion, was a wonderful day perfect for lounging in the sun. The Zutons were the last band to perform on Sunday Evening and the main act of the festival.

They are a Liverpool band who've been around for nearly a decade but became famous for their hits 'Why don't you give me your love' and 'Valerie' (later covered by mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse) but were dropped by their 'major' label (Sony) in 2008 - for poor sales, apparantly. I could not judge what kind of sales a corporate label like Sony is expecting, but it is a shame for this excellent band, whose live output is at least on par with their three excellent studio albums.

I never had an ambition to shoot bands in an official manner (except for Morrissey but that is an entirely different story), much preferring the view from the moshpit, complete with as many raised hands I can manage to cram in the fram, but with increased security (and increased drunken-ness) I sometimes wish for a covetable press pass...this is one of the reasons you might see me happily bouncing around indie events, where the company is superb, the bands interesting (and usually completely unknown) and where kind people watch out for you.

As for Morrissey, I think having him round for tea (and quorn ball sandwiches) would be the perfect photographic opportunity
