About half of the bands this year appeared to be from Glasgow, and Camera Obscura is one of them - they've been around for ages, recirded a few albums, but I shamefacedly admit I first heard of them back in April, when a friend dragged me to a gig (" I am not sure you will like them, Anja, mostly pretty girls with guitars and hairslides..."). They're a great stage presence, and I greatly enjoyed my second CAmera Obscura gig, although I slunk off halfway through to sample 'Waking the President', also from Glasgow but quite a different kettle of fish.
