Atkinson 'Cycle' engine

This bears the same name as an engine in my "running" model gallery, but is larger, and is much more authentic. Note the "tower" for water cooling. This is a four cycle engine and is fairly large, with a 16 inch flywheel. The odd part about the Atkinson 'cycle' engine, all 4 strokes occur with one revolution of the crankshaft. (see the 3 photos which follow) Bill Tester of Snohomish, WA owns this running model. The castings were discontinued several years ago.

This looks like the engine I helped make the patterns for.The piston and valves are for a Briggs and Stratton. The first model made was not cast but cut out of plate. Only a few of these went out in kit form. This one originated in Valley Center, KS.around 10 years ago.
