Live Free or Die

Photo of a barn on a back road in New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire state motto, Live Free or Die, is a quote from General John Stark, a New Hampshire native.
In childhood he was captured by Indians, brought to Canada, and later ransomed.
He served in the British Army and was a member of the famed Roger's Rangers.
He later served in the Continental Army as a Brigadier General.
Some find his words disturbing and confrontational.
Here in a state known for its cool/cold climate, we have a paraphrase:
Live, Freeze and Die.

Happy Fourth of July! (55F)

cool, although conditions look comfortable this day...the motto is strongly expressed, yet we all cherish living free...New Hampshire's clever variation offers a resonant alternative..

Great shot, and such an interesting narrative. Happy Fourth to you, too, Kevin!

The sagging roof is a good metaphor for American democracy. Will it be repaired or will it collapse?

Cool find this old barn. Wonder what the alternate motto for California is. 66F here now. It will be 77F today.

Ha ha, I like your alternate motto. Could be used here in Buffalo, too! Though today is going to be 78ºF. Happy 4th!
