It's not water, it's glycerin. I shot this with my camera on a tripod, straight down at drops of glycerin on blank cd's. I had 2 low-angle lights aimed at the cd surface from right and left to create the prism effect. Although they appear to be floating, the drops are actually directly on the cd's.
