Marina City was constructed in 1964, consisting of two 65-story towers. The complex was billed as a "city within a city", featuring numerous on-site facilities including a
theatre, gym, swimming pool, ice rink, bowling alley, several stores and restaurants, and of course, a marina. Built on (and in) the Chicago River using a special
German-formula concrete, it was sometimes called the "Corn Cobs". The west tower originally provided WLS-TV (ABC) a nice perch from which to broadcast.
