Located high in the mountains, Silverton survives today as one end of the extremely popular Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
This historical railroad exists today, and the cliff-hugging route through the Animas River Gorge offers spectacular
views of the mountains that can be seen only from the train.
