Death of A Freighter

Feb 1966. The SS Rockport, of Liberian registry, is shown abandoned and sinking in the Pacific Ocean approx. 1000 miles SW of Hawaii. The ship's cargo was iron ore, and she had broken some seams open in heavy seas. I was on the Navy's U.S.S. Moctobi ATF-105, an ocean-going tug, which was sent from Pearl Harbor to determine if the ship could be towed. We were on station for a day and a half when this dramatic event occurred. The color shots were taken with a Nikon Photomic T, and the B&W with a Zeiss Contessa. I sold 4 shots to the Associated Press, and they went out on the AP wire worldwide. I apologize for the condition of the negatives.
