In the Spring of 2004 there was a large snow storm that deposited lots of snow in Fort Collins, CO. The result of the snow melt was a temporary pond at the South-East corner of East County Rd. 32 (Carpenter Rd) and South County Rd. 9. A colony of American Avocets appeared with the usual Killdeers and Canada Geese. The Avocets mated there and raised their chicks. The pond was there only one season and I feel greatful to have been there to observe and document. This photo shows the chick in the lower left corner.
