The Sand Carpets of La Orotava

Every year for for the festivities of Corpus Christi the sand carpet artists of La Orotava (Tenerife) create pictures on the plaza of the city hall by drizzling natural coloured volcanic sands onto the ground to form paintings. There is no paint or means to fix the sand to the ground. The day of the church ceremony, the sand carpets are walked upon by the procession and later swept away.
