I just got this lens 2 months ago. I have gotten some wonderful macro shots with this lens.
I've also used it for portraits shooting at 2.8 and its so sharp that I have to soften the photos! More than I had hoped for! The auto-focus is fast on my Nikon D7000 though for macro I use manual focus. I have to say that I will use this lens for both macro and portrait photography though I wish I had gotten the Sigma 150mm macro for more distance for skittish insects!

Optically I am very pleased with my lens. The one issue that bugs me is the focusing, is't slow (compared to Canon lenses) and always seems to focus in the wrong direction when I need a fast focus. Will be changing to the Canon 100mm as soon as I have some spare cash!
