For the last 3 years I have used the A630 + an Underwater Casing by Canon WP-DC8 for my UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY, you can sea the results here:http://www.pbase.com/dani_barchana/underwater_photography.
The camera is good and reliable, with lots of manual options.

I have had my A630 for a little less then a year, This morning I turned it on to take a picture and the camera's flash does not work any more. Anyone have any idea what would cause this?? Does the flash have an average life expectancy of so many pictures? I took over 12,000 since getting it. Could this be part of the problem? Is it time to get a new camera or is this repairable?

Picked an A630 up yesterday, grabbed a few test shots in Manual mode on the way home, and I think I'm going to like it a lot. It's not going to replace my D50 and Nikkor lenses, but as a "got-it-with-me" alternative to the heavier stuff, it's a nice alternative.
