This is a Thornton Pickard Royal Ruby Stereo Field Camera, from the early 1900's. The makers advertised it as 'The King of Cameras'. It is made from specially selected mahogany known as 'fiddle back' mahogany. The camera can take half-plate format images (4.75" x 6.5") for full size images OR half of that format for stereo pairs.
The cameras has the 'Omniflex' adjustable front standard which is a strut design providing increased perspective control movements.
The camera is equiped with front and rear shutter systems of the roller blind type.
