I like the b+w. It would be uncomfortable to have people bothering you trying to sell you stuff. But I guess that's the price one has to pay if one goes to a tourist place. There's nothing like going to a not-well known place.
I love this about Mexico, locals on the beach. Alot of tourists find them a pain, I have always found them very open and friendly. Plus they work way to HARD for the money.
