This is the Forbidden City. It was the May holidays in China when these photos were taken - hence the crowds. The picture is, of course, of Mao. His Tomb is across the road from here in Tiananmen Square. The Forbidden City is in the heart of Beijing. It really is a vast place. Very different and much bigger than I anticipated.
