Cambodia Genocide ( These Pictures will distress you )

Last year I was lucky enough to visit Cambodia. I saw 2 things that I will never forget, Angkor Wat and the genocide museum. I have no doubt that you will find these pictures hard to look at. I have done nothing to them, but crop. I’m posting as I believe the Cambodian people need our help as much as those hit by the Tsunami disaster, as many people died ( were murdered ) during the Pol Pot regime. There is a picture here called “Tree” - it broke my heart to think that someone could take a child and smash their head into a tree to kill them. I do not ask you to donate money but I do ask you to vote for this gallery so I can achieve my aim, to make as many people aware of this horror as possible.

Thank you for sharing this page.I have a few family members left that were able to escape the genocide. There were about 600 concentration camps in total. My parents, grandparents, and two of my great uncles were able to escape. Some of the things that my parents witnessed is shocking. It is hard for them to speak of it until this day. They still don't know until this day how many people were murdered. Some think that it might be 3 million plus.

My father was in a camp where they housed all the soldiers. He told me every day they would murder as much as 1000 people or even more depending on their mood. My father knew he would probably get killed next because his row was next to go. He escaped one night with three other people and lived in the jungles slowly traveling eating whatever bugs or plants he could find.

There are so many other stories that I wish I could share with all of you.

Very disturbing.. I had heard of the Leader but never thought i would
See the devestation first hand.. To lose an entire generation almost and to take 30 years for justice.. Why? This is the 21st century they should do as the bible says.. An eye for
An eye.. And it should have never taken this long for justice to take place.

I cannot comprehend how any group of people could justify the method they use on the own people to clean their new nation. killing all the professionals in a whole country pretty much cripple any restoral chance they had of making cambodia a gem in the history of the world that it should be. and to think a king's action brought this upon his people. he must a soulless monster to be able to wake each morning and not have this on his mind.

I'm the Cambodian people , so i know alot about this .i was very difficulty for my feeling,so horrible,and i do not want Pol Pot regime happen again .so i must try to learn and then i will make my country to develop with my skill.

Doing studies in Global Ethics on this very issue and how Cambodia suffers for it to this day. Truly horrifying.

Indeed these pictures are heartbreaking. Its hard to believe so many people were murdered at the killing fields and yet not so hard to believe when you see the thousands of skulls from the victims.

i saw Tuol Sleng a few years ago; I couldn't sleep for a few days, so horrible. Too bad these things are still going on today.

It's truly gruesome what fellow humans can do to each other, where ever in the world it is, and the only way to stop it is to highlight it and bring it to the attention of the people, then Goverments may decide to do something about it.

Unfortunatley it occurs all the time whether we acknowledge it or not - Rwanda, Bosnia, Iraq just to name a few since Cambodia. Genocide is an element of human nature that has and likely always will exist.

A very emotive, shocking series of photographs, and from the not-too-distant past, which makes them somehow more horrific. But they need to be shown.
