The Abtei Himmerod is an 850+ year old abbey with quite a history. This past week was the annual Himmerod Week festival. On of the high lights was the III Nacht der Zisterzienser which is a 4 hour long concert with several choirs and well known organists. The lighting is a very special installation just for this one night and consists of 148 X 500 watt white lights plus 7 X 40,000 watt lights with liquid crystal filters which can product any color desired. The entire lighting is controlled by a man and his assistant through a computer system. The lights are hand synced to the music and provide a tremendous impact to the entire presentation.
Photographing this event was a bit of a challenge for me and my gear and I’m more than pleased that I was able to capture a few useable images. The lighting was constantly changing is color and intensity; often fairly quickly. Of course, everything had to be shot with the light that was available and required rather long shutter speeds.
I hope you enjoy the images as much as I did capturing them!
