The 2014 preview ride, originally scheduled for March 23, was postponed for a week due to ice on the roads. I went over that day and drove the course, and indeed several stretches of Roberson and Juniper Swamp were still snow and ice from ditch to ditch. The following Sunday, March 30, those stretches had improved, but temperatures were in the upper 30's and the rain moved in. My moto driver, Dave, and I accompanied the riders on Dave's BMW GS1200 cross country moto. It was miserable. Dave had a heated suit he plugged into his bike. I did not. Fortunately, sitting behind him sheltered me from the worst of the elements. The riders, on the other hand, had no shelter at all and have my admiration for trying it at all, mush less the ones who actually finished.
