Hi Sheila. Thank you for the compliment. The Panasonic camera model number I used is listed at the bottom of each photo once you click on a thumbnail. My model is the Panasonic DMC-ZS7. This photos are right out of the camera, no photoshopping at all.
To get good night time shots, start with a tripod and then use the timer so that your pushing the button causes no motion blur. I use the little Joby tripod, which only cost $24, is about six inches tall and weighs a few ounces. I purchased the one with the magnetic feet so I can stick it to bike racks, cit street poles, car roofs, or wrap it around stuff.
I love this camera because it has a live histogram which allows me to adjust exposure compensation prior to taking the shot. Set the camera to the nighttime special settings, adjust the exposure compensation and shoot bracket photos where it takes three shots with one camera click. One photo will be slightly less than your exposure setting, one slightly more than your exposure setting, and one with the exact exposure setting. Then keep the one you like and delete the other two.

Oh I just love your shots of Bruges. I,too, went there but, believe me, I didn't get pictures like yours. Would you tell me which model and brand of point and shoot you use? I am thinking of buying the Panasonic FZ35. The ONLY reason I want to buy a new camera is to be able to get good nighttime shots!
