Red-breasted Nuthatch

Central Park, NYC

Sitta canadensis

Red-breasted Nuthatches are usually found in conifers. The female, shown here, has a dull red breast and slate-blue crown. Of the four North American nuthatches, this species is the most migratory and it's always a nice surprise to find one in CP.
