Eastern Whip-poor-will

Central Park, NYC

Caprimulgus vociferus

Eastern Whip-poor-wills sleep during the day and catch flying insects at night. Migrants are seldom seen, but news of this bird's location in Central Park spread very quickly.

Wow! Rick and I heard this bird while we were camping on the shores of Lake Huron in June but had no idea as to the species. Many thanks for sharing this lovely image! Janet
