Fox Sparrow

Central Park, NYC

Passerella iliaca

This colorful Fox Sparrow was one of a dozen we saw in the Tupelo Field in Central Park. They are migrating now, and can often be seen kicking in leaf litter. There are several different races of Fox Sparrow, and research is ongoing as to whether they are actually separate species.

Terrific shot Lloyd. This is a hard one to find in our area. Sparrows are just getting back in our part of the state. Yesterday I found a couple of Savannah's, a first for Spokane Co for the new year. I think your right not much interest in Sparrows. Although they are one of my favorite's. Tom
