Red-tailed Hawk (Pale Male)

Central Park, NYC

Buteo jamaicensis

Pale Male, perhaps the most famous hawk in the world, is shown here eating a pigeon. He and his mate Lola are the subjects of a best selling book by Marie Winn titled 'Red-Tails in Love'.
In late 2004, the pair generated much controversy when their nest was removed from its Fifth Avenue co-op. http://www.fws.gov/northeast/urbanwl.html
