Archilochus colubris

This Ruby-throated Hummingbird nest in Central Park may be the first recorded nesting attempt in NY County. The eggs were very close to hatching when a strange and unfortunate event occurred - a female Baltimore Oriole was photographed scaring the female off the nest and destroying the eggs while the hummingbird hovered nearby.
