Grand Canyon Kaibab Moonlit Hike
June 19-20 2008 Excellent weather
I keep trying, but there are no words or pics to adequately describe the inner Canyon under moonlight.
To me, the awe, serenity and silence invoke the enchanting melody and lyrics from Pink Floyd's 'Cirrus Minor':
"On a trip to Cirrus Minor,
Saw a crater in the sun
A thousand miles of moonlight later"
.
Shortly after sunset taken from within the Toroweap layer
Last hint of dusk near Cedar Ridge
Scorpius rising while my hiking buddy decends
Corvus over the cliffs
Saturn-Regulus-Mars conjunction
Setting up conjunction photo
Moonlight thru agave (Jupiter to the left of Moon, Saggitarius to the right)
North Rim Lodge lights top of agave
Sharing cocktails with a few locals below Skeleton Pt
Setting up another shot
Contemplating midnight at the saddle
Arcturus and Corona Borealis above the cliffs
My feeble flashlight trail
Hiker headlamps
Sillouette
A timed shot at Tonto Trail turnoff
Tip-Off panorama
At Tip-Off above the Colorado River
Switchbacks above Tonto Platform...lots of fun to climb at 1:30am
Headlamp trail at Skeleton Point
Hiking buddy's headlamp rounding O'Neil's Butte
Slabbed out at Cedar Ridge
But wait, there's more: A few pics from the GCSP. Here's the back end of the telescope field
Nice views of telephone pole insulator
Relaxing before the crowds arrive
Late afternoon shadows
10 minutes into moonrise
40 minutes into moonrise
