This picture was taken a couple of nights ago.
Was trying to photograph an Iridium flare near the North Star. Since it was near the North Star
I decided to make some star trails as well.
Iridium is a constellation of about 66 low earth satellites. They were to provide telephone
service all around the world. But the high cost of making a phone call and the enormous portable phones led to its doom.
The flare is the reflection of the suns rays off the antennaes on the satellite and is highly
predictable.
See the following website for these preditions http://www.heavens-above.com/
Can you find the flare?
Mounted the D7o w/kit lens on tripod and pointed it roughly at the
north star.
Just started taking 30sec, fully open aperture, with remote shutter
and took about 19 shots including the flare. ISO 800
Stacked all frames with Tawbaware's ImageStacker s/w.
Equivalent to a 15 minute exposure.
