Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park

view map

We visited this park with its six beehive shaped charcoal ovens.

They were used from 1876 to 1879 to process silver ore from the area.

Just outside of Ely, Nevada.

they do form a curious sight...the silver would have been processed in a smelter, so these ovens must have supplied the charcoal...cool the colourful bushes lead the eye into the scene..
