Shown below are two shots I took recently and some proposed changes to each through cropping in Lightroom. The original images shown have already had edits made to white balance & exposure. I would normally apply a modest vignette (edge darkening) to an image after the final crop was made, but did not in these instances.
The images for a proposed crop show the outline of the proposed crop on the full size image using the crop tool in Lightroom and before the proposed crop is applied. As with other edits made in Lightroom, a crop is non-destructive and not permanent. The original sized image can easily be restored.
Most photographers will agree that every photo can be improved by cropping. How that is done can be a very subjective decision based on many factors.
