"... the sculpture was carved in 1917 by Dr. Earl R. Bush, then a 31-year-old surgeon with the U.S. Health Bureau,
who was stationed at the park to provide medical care for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers crews who were building the first road around the lake.
According to park historian Steve Mark, work had mostly ceased by October, so Bush, using tools provided by a government blacksmith, spent about two weeks chiseling and hammering the form of a woman."
