a recent trip to a waterhole near betoota, a ghost town, well a derelict pub with no beer, the last stop before birdsville in far western queensland about 1500km from brisbane.
the channel country west of the lovely, solar-powered town of windorah, is like another planet. dead flat floodplains stretch 50km+ on either side of the road, tinged with wildflowers and grass shoots from recent rains. the word vast does not quite cover it. dion's lookout, gibber (rock) plains and spinfex-covered sandhills also featured.
