My first visit to Kazakhstan's lovely old capital coincided with Persian New Year. Wonderful city (and people) with a spectacular mountain backdrop. Also featured are the ski resort of Shymbaluk - just a short bus and cable car trip from the city, the open-air ice skating rink at Medeu and the beautiful lookout at Kok Tobe. Can't wait to go back.
