In June of 2002 we were fishing in Key West with Capt. Mike Wilbur, a first class guide. We worked hard all week for zero fish caught, until the last day. With little time left in our last day, Mike hooked a tarpon on a crab and called for Paul (asleep on the deck) to grab the rod.
Mike then guided Paul expertly through a long 15 minute fight on the light spinning tackle. He stood behind Paul the whole time, turning him toward the fish and coaching him through the fight: "Reel down on him, pull back, easy, easy, easy....reel down on him, pull back, easy, easy..." They kept at it very patiently and efficiently until the 15 pound (or so) tarpon finally came to the boat.
It was great fun and a great relief to finally get one in!
