Sunken Road, later known as Bloody Lane _14088

These men are setting up for a non-deadly shoot. The History Channel was filming for a program on the battle here.

Union forces nearly split Lee's army and would have defeated it here, after one of the Confederate commanders in the road misunderstood an order and called retreat. General Longstreet, viewing the situation from Piper's Field, put his officers to work firing two 12-pound Napoleon's and Gen. D.H. Hill led his division into Union forces on the flank preventing a break in the line.
