July 4, 2005

Home at last! I have skipped the fireworks on the Fourth for the past few years due to rain or it being too hot and security on the Mall being a major hindrance to just wandering down and hanging out. This year a friend was invited to a party on a boat in the Potomac, so I went. It was an unusually pleasant evening for July in Washington.

Last night I forgot to mention my "America" moment. Riding the shuttle bus with me from the airport to the hotel was a hispanic family and they were speaking in Spanish, talking loudly and laughing heartily and I thought it sounded so "American." I was glad to be home. Thank you to everyone who hosted me, showed me around England, fed me (Linda, especially on this, her vegetarian meals were filling and tasty even for a carnivore like me) and put up with me.

I like that quote, Simon . . and I agree . . you don't really appreciate America until you have left it for a bit . . then when you return it just GRABS you =]

Love the photo, glad you enjoyed the stay.
Henry Rollins wrote "You cannot be considered and american until you have left america" I think thats how it went, sums up what you were thinking.

Nice shot. These fireworks were more impressive than the local fare I viewed this year. Incidentally, the word is "unusually". ;-)

Thank you for coming to England. It was a pleasure to meet you and to show you a little of London. I wish we had had the room to put you up.

I look forward to meeting more of our PBase pals.

Excellent work here Mark. I especially like how the explosions can be seen as a glow in the water. Also this is nice and sharp. I'm curious about your exif data? Good job!
