I Got the Job!!

April 1, 2004

Thank you all for your encouragement to apply and for your crossed fingers, toes and other body parts. And Robin, thanks for your non-advice pmail. It counted quite a bit in my decision to apply. As did a conversation with my boss. I start in three weeks!

Do you know how hard it is to take a photo like this of yourself? (I'm sure many of you do, but I must rant.) The camera was 10 1/2 feet away. I had to set the timer, focus on the music stand with a brown book on it, fire the camera, run over put down the stand, move it out of the photo, holding this camera, grab the light meter, trigger the flash repeatedly in hopes of catching it once in the 1/4s exposure the Coolpix was giving me, pose myself nicely, and try to look happy. 20 attempts. This was the last one. How did you pull your shot off Elizabeth? The one on the ball. That must have been even harder! I know I didn't need to use the flash, but I wasn't happy with the darker look of the modeling lamp, and I wasn't using enough props. You know, maybe I should have set the camera in flash mode and let it fire the strobe by slave. Doh! Next time I'll try that. Anyhow, April Fools. I haven't heard a peep out of them two weeks since the application period closed. It was worth trying. I need more experience I'm sure.

My New York City gallery is up. Take a look, if you're interested.

Your expression is awesome! What a great shot, Mark.

It was and I was NOT delighted! LOL! Unlike Jeanne who gets goofier as the shoot progresses.

I get a giggle outa imagining you jumping in front of the camera 20 times & trying to act delighted!! That HAD to be a workout for you!

Ha! I love it. I got just about everybody with this one. Sometimes it pays to be serious. All those details about the shot helped hide the April Fools part, too. Nikki however, was on the ball. ;-) Yeah, I'll look into whether they've moved at all on this position soon.

Arrgh, you had me going. :(

Goood LORD! I was so excited I was practically jumping up and down and then I read the rest of it and laughed really hard. You're SNEAKY!!! ;) Great shot here, Mark, love the F100 making it's way in, and your light meter! Beautiful light.

You are a stinker!! You totally had me ready to write "Congrats" and then I thought I'd better read the other comments! Excellent photo... they'd be 'fools' not to hire you!

Wow Mark nice self....had me going there for a moment.

:))
Very good, Mark! For a split second I thought you'd done it - but then I remembered today's date!
I hope this can be a pre-cognitive image, for you! Well done on the self-portrait, BTW, nicely done despite the minor setbacks.

Well you certainly had me going! Good April Fools! I was ready to break out the champagne!
But I agree with Simon, two weeks is NIENTE, two months is probably more the norm. So I'll keep that champagne on ice for ya : )

Hey it has only been 2 weeks, things move slow with goverments, either way you still have more than a home here, as for the camera i am thinking of getting one to replace my battered oly 350z.
David Mingay02-Apr-2004 09:38
Well, even if you don't get the job, you look every inch a pro here. And well done getting this pic with such a basic camera!

LOL Anna!!
Mark: next time apply to be an "April Fool teller". You'll get that with no hassle...
oh yes, its a great fun, SP - your lil sis must be proud of you:-)
Anna Yu02-Apr-2004 09:22
Congratulations! What would really have been impressive if you had used the same camera to take the picture as the one in your hand. But I guess that only works if you can move faster than light.

Nice SP!

Nice shot Mark - though you really should try it with a scatty sheepdog in the picture too for really agrovation {lol} Bad luck on the job front {if it is yet?} and have to say I was just going to type a 'well done' message!! Keep trying though :)) I'll of course have a look through your NY gallery sometime today - look forward to that :))
