March 11, 2004

500 block, East Capitol Street

On my way home from work I stopped for some groceries at a corner market and couldn't resist taking this photo. I prefer it over this morning's daffodil. The runner is so typical of Washington--type A, health conscious.

I've seen this area before, and you did capture it nicely. I think joggers abound wherever the government/military have presence (Pentagon, White House, etc). . .they have their PT (phys training)fetish/addiction that must be abated & admired. It's in my area so much no one thiks twice about seeing joggers, bladers & cyclists

Jill, Baltimore and DC look a lot alike. Baltimore had been trying to lure frustrated DC homebuyers to reviving neighborhoods in Baltimore that were/are much cheaper than DC, but have all the same charm...and crime. :) Yes, Sher, many, many people actually jog here. And those who don't, roller blade, and I'm not talking about piddlin' around. They've passed me while going 20mph on my bike! Oh, and then there are the cyclists. The good ones cruise along the flats at 25 mph. A city of health nuts.

John, just five blocks east of the Capitol and it is indeed quiet neighborhoods. There is a bus line on this street--Fifth Street, the cross road here runs into a park three blocks south and another three blocks north, so there's not much through traffic on it. I think L'Enfant designed the street grid to make an attack by (British? LOL.) forces difficult. He succeeded in creating traffic quagmires all around the town. And you guys still sacked the White House in 1812! :)

Ha! You've got to love those type A behaviours!! I like this one better than the daff - that sky looks a bit threatening, and the building stands out really nicely against it.

Almost thought it to be Baltimore from the thumbnail.

I like how you captured the shadows and light. Very nice.

Mark - nice shadow on the building (the tree). Does look kind of quite for Washington??

Great play of shadows on the side of the building. Very suttle. I like.

Ditto on what Angela said. The part about the job.

A gorgeous display of that massive building. Are you going to apply for that job? (I'm going to badger you until you say yes) ;)

Fine photo.
Interesting to note that there's only one car in the photo, and its an import!
