The Sanctus. A high point in many liturgical celebrations. In his Requiem, Verdi sets it for two choruses and begins with a big timpani roll. Durufle began with this simple chant setting in his Requiem and took it to a soaring crescendo--a very beautiful arrangement.

Thanks, James, Jill and Lara...I appreciate it. Verdi writes exciting music, very excessible to modern ears.

Chris, give her the Pie Jesu, and Psalm 23. Well, that's if she lets you outlive her. :) I think I'd like Tavener's "Funeral Ikos" at mine. It gives me chills and the Our Father from Rachmaninoff's "Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom."

Adrienne wants either part of Faure's Requiem or The Chichester Psalms at her funeral.
