WW1: Rememberence

My father in law is in the military. Every year there is a service at Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium to remember those who gave their lives in the first world war. I was invited along and we visited some of the many war memorials. We also stayed a night in France and visited the Franco-British Memorial. Here is a selection of photos taken during this time. I just found out that my Great grandfather and his brother fought in Sanctuary wood and that his brother died there. Thanks for the pictures.You have given me a grwat gift

Geoff, Thank You so much for taking the time to share your photos. My wife and I are planning a tour thur Europe, and in perticular a stop at the American Cemetery at Thiaucourt. There I hope to finally present to MY GRANDFATHER, a WW1 Solider, his "Purple Heart". It as taken me over 8 years, and a great deal of persistance, to finally have this preseted post humas. We plan to visit and meet as many of the wonderful French citizens as possible while touring that area of France. Now that I've discovered your photo gallerie I will add this location to our trip. My visit from Australia in 2003 also included a pilgrimage of the 1st World War cemetary's. In a search for my unknown grandfather I did discover a namesake on the back wall(Frank Pierson) of Tyne Cot but for some reason the photo did not work. In a search for his name in Tyne Cot records I came across your photo's and it brought back all those emotions I felt at the time. I still cannot get over the enormity of such a waste of life !

I would like to thankyou for these moving pictures, i have visited these places myself and words cant describe how unbelievablly moving they really are. Your pictures are beautiful and have given me a real sence of rememberance for these incredibly brave men. your gallery is wonderful, and the pictures describe the resting soldiers in a way words couldnt commence. thankyou
