While clearing out the 2024 growing season’s soil from my pots in 2025 - pots that had wintered outside - I noticed a pair of emerging leaves that resembled petunias. I had previously grown petunias indoors from seed, so the shape was familiar. Since I didn’t need those pots until mid-May, I decided to leave the seedlings alone and see what happened.

This pot had wintered outside in prolonged subzero temperatures and had no change of soil.
What I discovered - after noticing those first couple of leaves - was an unexplainable, changing mystery from 2025 continuing into 2026.
