Helping Mommy

I set out on Tuesday morning for a hundred mile drive to see the newborn Eagle family. During my entire drive, I was hoping that the babies would be big enough that I could finally get a clearer view of them in the nest.

However - to my amazement - it is now even more difficult to get a view of the babies. That is because the parent Eagles are in the process of building the sides of their nest even higher!!! Mama and Daddy spent hours yesterday stacking sticks higher & higher: to either keep the babies in, or else prying eyes out. Maybe both.

During my 5 hours watching the nest, I was rewarded to get this shot of the one of the Eaglets helping Mommy move some new sticks.

I feel so fortune to be able to witness the Eagle pair taking care of their young. These parents are extremely loving and protective of their two babies. It has been a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity.

Beautiful capture and story Liz. V. (I know what you mean when you say you are fortunate. I had an opportunity a few years back to watch two GH Owl families grow from hatchlings to about 14 weeks old. Great experience and I only had to drive five minutes.)
