Hurt???

No, just pretending

This female killdeer put on an elaborate display to lure me away from her nest. Not far away, the male also put on a similar act to protect their unborn babies from the attention of possible predators. In addition to feigning injury, both birds constantly chattered a shrill call that would be hard to ignore.
