Osteospermum is a relatively recent addition to the gardening world and has only been available commercially since the early 1990s.
I'm not sure if I will grow this flower variety again in future years. Despite what some say, it definitely seems to prefer cooler weather and has had a relatively short season of bloom in our climate. Between mid-June and late September, the plant doesn't do much. It doesn't like a hot, humid Summer. It does best between 50 and 75 degrees...
This is the second time I've grown Osteosperum. I'll skip next year. Then, maybe in the future, I'll decide if it will actually take 3 strikes before I totally count it out at my house forever. It really is quite pretty. Nevertheless, I can always go to a botanical garden to see pretty things that aren't worth the effort of my personal labors or take up space to grow. But for now, I'm enjoying late season flowers from the African Daisy I currently have on my deck. It's a happy looking flower.
