Twins 8-28-25

I used to look forward to occasionally visiting deer.
However lately, I'm out there banging pans and yelling at them and even pretend "big dog barking" to try to scare them off. Unless they are also losing landscape plants left and right, the neighbors must think I've lost my mind. I certainly feel crazy...

These two are the last of the 8 deer chomping on our crab apple trees in the back yard this evening. REALLY??? This was the third time, I've had to "chase" other small herds of deer off today. The first two times, the deer left when I just yelled "Get!!!" However, this last group totally thumbed their noses at me and only moved on when they felt good and ready. Knowing they had won, I finally got my camera out and took a shot of these fawns casually walking off. I gather they were headed to see what might be tasty in the neighbors' yard.

Meanwhile, we have installed an ultrasound deer deterrent to stop them from browsing to the ground our newly planted bushes. Frankly, it's not working... I like deer, but this has all gotten to be a bit too much. We were here before roaming herds of deer https://pbase.com/britestar/image/175704890 So, this should be our territory and not theirs. Still, the babies are cute.

Nice capture of this young pair of deer. Each spring we often see very young deer with their spots wandering in our back yard. V+

They seem pretty unfazed by your deterrents. Looks like you may be in for a long struggle.

Try some garlic powder with red pepper/cayenne pepper, it has been doing well here. If you want to spray rather than sprinkle mix both with a bit of dish detergent and water in a spray bottle. (strain first) use around the trees and plants.
You do have to keep refreshing the area every week and after a rain, but if it works it's worth it and might just train them to roam elsewhere
