First Day of Meteorologist Winter 2024

Today, December 1st marks the first day of the Meteorological Winter.
Meteorological seasons were made by meteorologists to better track data for each season according to the weather. By this system, Winter lasts from December 1st through the end of February. As the beginning of Meteorologist Winter arrives, is the time to normally hunker down indoors and enjoy the Christmas holiday season.

Although The Christmas tree in the above photo is cute on our new countertop, I long for more than a tiny tree this year! For me to feel like it's Christmastime, I need to have our regular tree in front of the family room patio door. By the end of November, we should be at least this far along in decorating the tree: https://pbase.com/britestar/image/171308054 However, I'm not sure we'll be able to put the main tree up this year. With my new back problems, I doubt I'll be able to do whirlwind decorating at the very last moment closer to the start of Astronomical Winter than today's Meteorologist Winter.

I'll be sad if we have to forget our regular Christmas tree for 2024.
But we may.

The house is currently a total mess from kitchen construction. Things from both countertops and inside the cabinets had to be moved out of the kitchen and put into other rooms. Because the family room is now full of boxes with kitchen stuff, we don't have the space for our regular Christmas tree. Although the kitchen stuff will eventually go back into the kitchen, it will take quite a bit of time to get everything back and reorganized again. Right now, we don't have a functioning cooktop, sink, or dishwasher. Things can't start to return to those areas until we do

My Christmas decorating usually takes 6 weeks. Unfortunately, we've been too busy dealing with the kitchen situation to devote much time to our normal Christmastime decorating. My dear husband has hung the indoors Christmas wreaths. However, with all the mess on the floor, the wreaths don't have the warm, holiday feeling that they normally would. Everything instead feels more like a construction zone than like a holiday home. Without the Christmas tree up, it also doesn't feel much like Christmastime to me.

Despite there being snow on the ground outside and dumb Hallmark Christmas movies on TV, I'm missing the Christmas spirit this year. All I can think about at the moment is getting things back into the kitchen and finishing the rest of the kitchen remodel. Making sure that the new puppy https://pbase.com/britestar/taras_baby_photos gets plenty of attention - until she can properly join the family - also takes all my free time. Tara is unfortunately still stuck in isolation and thus missing the joy of her first Christmastime.

Footnote:
The trophies in the above photo are just a few from my dog show wins.
I have too many to put out on display, but these are some of my favorites with special memories.
Little personal things like this help to make a house one's home. I spent all od this weekend unboxing and in getting these trophies back to where they belong on the divider between the kitchen and the family room. That's progress and mini Christmas tree with them gave me a Christmas tree to celebrate the first day of Winter. These shiny objects represent a lot of happy memories. They're a touch of familiarity in a kitchen that now somewhat feels like a stranger's. Although everything is turning out beautifully, I will need to get used to all the changes.
