White Snakeroot 9-16-24

Toxic

A plant responsible for the death of Abraham Lincoln's mother: https://www.capegazette.com/article/white-snakeroot-plant-killed-abe-lincoln%E2%80%99s-mom/184715#:~:text=It%20

And it's growing wild in our backyard...

White snakeroot is common statewide. It’s a toxic plant, so it’s good to be able to identify it. It's difficult to get rid of and to keep away. Any place "natural plants" can grow in the landscape, this can appear. Snakeroot is common in both suburban and urban areas. You can find it even along shady sidewalks and in public parks. Pretty to look at, but beware.
