Making Babies 8-01-24

This Persistent Fellow

This Persistent Fellow (On the top) was one of several males following the female around all day. She eventually allowed him to sniff her private areas and then do this.

******************

During the entire 2-3 month breeding season, female squirrels will only allow mating for one single day, but there’s really no way to predict which day it will be until it happens. In Eastern gray squirrels, estrus lasts less than 8 hours. Actual breeding takes less than 30 seconds.

******************

August seems a little late in the year for Grey Squirrels to breed in our area. But with warm weather lasting longer each year, it may not make any difference.

Just another squirrel looking for a nut ... nice nature

Well now, he might only be doing the Heimlich maneuver on her because she was choking on a nut. 8-)

Those males are persistent! It does seem a bit late for mating, but as you say, the warmer climate makes a difference. V
