Floris C. van Dijck (ca. 1575-1651)
Floris Claesz. van Dijck was born in Delft around 1575. He lived for some time in Haarlem, where he became engaged in 1604. It is not known from whom he received his education. What we do know is that after his apprenticeship he undertook a study trip to Italy. Van Dijck was first and foremost a painter of still lifes, famous for his natural depiction of flowers and plants. Floris van Dijck was given a high position within the Haarlem painters' guild, but hardly painted in the last 25 years of his life. Maybe it was because he didn't have to make a living from painting. His will, drawn up in 1605, shows great wealth. Floris Claesz van Dijck died in 1651.
