Basaltic Plains and Craters 4-23-24

Earth's Moon

On Tuesday, April 23, April’s full "Pink Moon" reached peak illumination at 6:49 p.m. CDT.
This comes 15 days after playing a role in a Full Solar Eclipse across a great portion of the USA.

Obviously, the April moon is not actually pink.
However, it is often called the "Pink Moon" because historically, it corresponded with the early springtime blooms of a pink wildflower native to eastern North America: Phlox subulata—commonly called creeping phlox which also went by the name “moss pink.”
